I have two daily quilt block goals, the Somerset Patchwork Star a Day blocks and the Farmers Wife Sampler blocks



Bricks and Stepping Stones is my current leader/ender quilt


I want to finish three Block of the Month Quilts

Pies and Tarts

MoonGlow

Citrus Sweet Love




I'm swapping two blocks a week with two friends (so making two sets of three blocks).  They are Scrappy Sisters Choice blocks reduced to 5 inches.


I would also like to

Make a Tardis Quilt

Finish ONE hexagon quilt this year

Quilt one Charity/donation quilt per month

Only buy fabric for backings or to complete a specific project

Start a Millefiore (La Passacaglia) quilt

Make a quilt for myself from my Tula Pink stash

Finish the quilts I promised to my kids/partners/grandkids

Whew!!!

If I get this accomplished, I'll be SO happy

Whew, can't believe it's 2015

Where did last year go?

Quilting, illness diagnosis, drs and specialist appointment and quilting.

Can't forget that a grandson entered the family

 Also quilted, sewed, hand pieced.

Demonstrated hexagon English paper piecing four times, finished the second Insanity quilt top in Kaffe Fassett fabrics

 

Finished three quilts for me.  Disappearing 4 patch in Terra Australis fabrics, Omigosh in Civil War repros and my own design, Nana's Pansies.

 Nana's Pansies and a ball I made for my grandson won prizes at Pakenham Show

All my kids and grandchildren got together in September (eldest daughter, and her family traveled a LONG way to get here)

Other than that there was the usual family stuff, a broken arm (Mr 11), birthdays, school camps, kids growing up way too fast..

I'm looking forward to 2015 being a little quieter so I can quilt and blog

Hexagons and Insanity

I enjoy hand piecing, it's portable and sociable

Ever since I saw this magazine, I was hooked on half inch hexies

The award winning cover quilt is titled Insanity by Rhonda Pearce

10,339 half-inch-a-side hexagons

Insanity I started on February 1st 2008 (2009?)  Originally, I cut my own papers and just used scraps of 30's repros.  Decided I really liked the pattern and bought pre-cut hexagon papers.  The background is a not so great no-name homespun.  The accent border is a 30's repro pink from 2000

Insanity II started on the 24th July, 2010.  The day that a Kaffe Fassett workshop was announced for 2011.  I wanted some show and tell for the day.  Background Emma Louise 707 and the accent color is a Japanese solid from Amitie Textiles

Insanity III started on the 6th August, 2011.  Jo Morton fabrics and a lovely Judy Rothermel turkey red for accent, background is a natural homespun

I don't think it's odd to love a pattern so much that multiple quilts are made

These quilts have taken on a life of their own, they are mini celebrities.  I often go places and get asked if I've brought one.

Insanity II is within 1500 pieces of being finished and I'd better get cracking.  There's a Kaffe Fasset workshop next year, and I'm GOING!!!!

A teacher at the kids school left yesterday on maternity leave.

It was decided that said kids (well, mum) would make her a quilt

A bright and cheery I Spy, perfect size for a first quilt, 38.5 x 44.5 inches

the back is the same red as the accent border

Sometimes you just have to have a "quickie" finish to make you feel good

and this is me and Miss S-L (aged 8) She was bored on the weekend so we made Mr Bear a quilt now the rest of the girls want to spend time with me in the upcoming holidays, miss 12 wants to make a BED!! quilt

A long time ago, I was asked to make a quilt for my local Shar Pei Rescue Group

The breed specific fabric is available at  Hot Diggity Dog

Fussy-cut dog heads for the quilt, two pillow cases and a cushion cover (quilt displayed sideways on my eldest son's bed)

Soldi fabrics are "Iron" and Dark Brown Prima Homespun from Spotlight stores

Sorry that I can't remember the pattern source, will add due credit when I find it!!

Getting "it" done...

I'd like to be more organised

NOT a New Year's resolution, it's a fact

To this end, I'm joining the group over at Patchwork Times

Have been working on random blocks

Row A is complete

A bit scattered here, not a lot of things going on....

Single Girl quilt blocks, hung so I know where they are

String spiderweb stars, again so they don't get "lost"

"Omigosh, it's Denyse" second set of blocks

A BEE block, some 3 inch blocks (bow-tie, star and spool)

and two lonely "Sylvia's Bridal Sampler" blocks on the far, top right

 These are crumb blocks.

Miss (now) 5 and I pieced them last year

The top *only* needed 2 triangles and a few seams to be complete

now I'm waiting on decisions to be made regarding borders

....but you can't hurry 5 year old quilters!!
